Sarah-Bess Dworin Director of Curriculum and Instruction
Sarah-Bess Dworin serves as Umoja’s Director of Curriculum and Instruction. Since joining Umoja in 2011, she designed and produced Umoja’s extensive curriculum and developed Umoja's adult learning offerings.
Key curriculum designed by Sarah-Bess includes the book "In School Disciplinary Interventions" and Umoja's 23-unit daily high school course which blends Social and Emotional Learning, Restorative Justice, and postsecondary readiness. With over 15 years of instructional and curriculum design experience, Sarah-Bess is passionate about facilitating interactive workshops which support adults in their work with young people. A former youth outreach worker in Chicago, Sarah-Bess received her MAT from the Teacher's College at Columbia University and went on to teach high school English in Bronx, NY. Other curriculum and youth development publications include "Adolescent War Trauma and the Path Toward Healing in Northern Ireland," 2001, and "Khmer Youth Association Women’s Empowerment Experiential Curriculum," 2011.
