Ilana Zafran Program Director/Goodman Senior Fellow
Ilana Zafran serves as Umoja’s Program Director and provides vision and guidance to the Restorative Justice programming we share with our partner schools.
Ilana joined Umoja in 2006, serving a year-long AVODAH internship. After completing her internship, Ilana stayed with Umoja, working with students in our academic, leadership and service learning programs. Ilana led the development and implementation of the Restorative Justice Program that Umoja launched at Manley High School and provided training and support to the school’s faculty, discipline team and Restorative Justice staff. Ilana continues to oversee the expansion of our Restorative Justice work and helps to coordinate and integrate Umoja’s innovation program areas.
A graduate of the College of Wooster, Ilana has served as a member of the Chicago Freedom School’s Board of Directors and participates in ongoing professional development opportunities related to restorative and social justice. She has attended training and workshops sponsored by the Community Justice for Youth Institute, Alternatives, University of Chicago School of Social Work and Project Nia.
