Dawn Hicks Chief Program Officer
Dawn Hicks joined Umoja in June 2015 in the newly created Chief Program Officer role. In this role, she oversees Umoja’s programs and provides expertise in developing systems and structures for programmatic direction and growth.
Prior to joining Umoja, Dawn was Assistant Director of the University of Chicago Charter School's North Kenwood Oakland campus. During that time, she was integral in the creation of the school’s value and culture system, designed structures and professional development to incorporate social emotional learning intothe daily school routine, and analyzed data to improve yearly schoolwide goals. Dawn began her career at KIPP Ascend Middle School where she served as School Social Worker and Dean of Students.
Dawn holds a Master of Arts in Social Work from the University of Chicago, a Master of Arts in Education Supervision and Administration from National Louis University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work from Michigan State University.
Dawn is a 2017 Surge Fellow through the Surge Institute where she participated in a 12-month fellowship designed to develop high-potential talent within education to create the pipeline of influential education leaders of color.
