In 2010, Aubrie joined Umoja as a Partnership Development Specialist serving Harper High School and Crane High School to support Social & Emotional work via Advisory. Since then, she has worked alongside Manley Career Academy, North Lawndale College Prep, DeVry Advantage Academy and Sullivan High School.

A graduate of The College of Wooster, Aubrie came to Umoja after completing her commitment to Ranson Middle School with Teach for America in Charlotte, NC. During that time, she served as an 8th grade Language Arts Teacher, 8th Grade Team Lead, and was voted Teacher of the Year by her students. While working in Charlotte, Aubrie spent her summers at DOOR Chicago, living and working in East Garfield Park. Having worked, studied and lived on the west side of Chicago, as well as having taught in an underserved school, Aubrie found the perfect fit of skills and passions in her role at Umoja.

Now serving as Director of Social & Emotional Learning (SEL), Aubrie supervises the operations of the SEL Team in each of our partner schools that implements Seminar, having piloted Umoja’s Senior and Freshmen Seminar at Sullivan High School in Rogers Park. Aubrie also serves as the Social Justice Committee Chair at Lake View Presbyterian Church and is connected with the Illinois Social Emotional Literacy Network.
